I woke up this morning to the news that Japan had suffered a crippling series of earthquakes! Right off the coast of Japan (just north of Tokyo) at about 11:28 p.m. (JST) / 9:28 a.m. (ET) today (3-11-11), Japan was struck by numerous earthquakes, with the strongest being 8.9. The real kicker was the incomparably large tsunami that struck subsequently. This shit is bad. Japan is BUILT for natural disasters! They get between 8 and 12 Typhoons a year and take it in stride. They aren’t taking THIS so well though.
An odd factors in this particular event is the staggering amount of aftershock earthquakes. They have been rumbling on and on since the initial 8.9 quake. most are about level 5. That is still significantly powerful. The deathtoll is already climbing. A portion Tokyo has been evacuated due to the threat of nuclear reactor meltdowns. Oil refineries are burning. Cars are being swept out to sea…
Will this effect the video game industry? Lets just say that if someone sets up an aid organization, I will be donating money.
