Full List Of Characters In ‘Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale’

UPDATE 07/16 EVO, and Comic Con new reveals included, plus 1 unconfirmed character we know is coming

The article that follows will list all confirmed, and then rumored/predicted characters in the Smash Bros inspired Playstation brawler ‘Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale’ It will be updated as information emerges, and new characters are confirmed.

There’s a couple cliff notes about this list I’d like to go over. First of all every character here is first party (Sony owns the IP/franchise) [SuperBot Entertainment has confirmed that there will be third party characters in Playstation All Stars Battle Royale] secondly there’ll generally be no dual representations per franchise (Clank, you’re gonna have to chill out on Ratchets back) and lastly the predicted/rumored characters are there based on: sales/success, how well known they are, and if the characters franchise is likely to continue into the future.

Confirmed characters:

Kratos

The infamous God slayer Kratos is the star of God of War which is most likely SCEA’s biggest, best selling, and easily most iconic franchise to date. Kratos has been in all 6 God of War games which have spanned across the Ps2, Psp, Ps3, and mobile, with God of War Ascension releasing later this year for the Ps3.

Paul Gale Network is reporting:

“Kratos’ primary attacks are his chains. He also has a charge attack with his spear and shield that’s powerful, yet rather unwieldly. Kratos has a Level 1 bar attack where he plunges his chain into the ground and sparks fly. Kratos’ Level 3 super is him turning into his giant, armored super-self and using his huge sword that’s a 1-hit kill. His recovery move are his wings.

Sweet Tooth

Twisted Metal is Sony’s longest running Playstation franchise. Originally starting on the Ps1, Twisted Metal has had 7 major entries across the: Ps1, Ps2, Psp, and Ps3.

Though the franchise has no ‘main characters’ Sweet Tooth has emerged as the face of Twisted Metal, and has become one of gaming’s biggest icons.

Paul Gale Network reports:

“Sweet Tooth has different nasty attacks with his Level 3 super being him turning into the mecha clown ice cream truck you all have come to love, and is equipped with a powerful gun.”

Sly Cooper

Before Sucker Punch developed inFamous, they created the Sly series for the Ps2. These titles were bundled together in the HD Sly collection, but come 2012 the Ps3, and Playstation Vita will have a Sly title to call their own in Sly Cooper Theives in time.

Paul Gale Network reports:

“Sly Cooper uses his C-shaped cane for most attacks. His Level 3 super is like Snake’s Final Smash from Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The super begins with Sly disappearing from the screen, followed by an aiming reticule popping up. Bentley (yup, our turtle friend) shows up and gives you pointers to take out your enemies.”

Nathan Drake

Nathan Drake is the clever every-man star of the Ps3′s Uncharted series. He’s often been called the Playstation 3′s mascot, as his critically acclaimed games highlight the technical prowess and capacity of  Sony’s flagship console.

Uncharted is a series sure to live on, as his games are self-contained, and the globe trotting franchise will always be used as demo-ware for whatever platform Sony is pushing (see Uncharted 3 in 3D or Uncharted Golden Abyss for Ps Vita)

Paul Gale Network Reports:

“Nathan Drake’s moves involve him punching up close, but for most of his attacks, he’s an all-range fighter: he uses a pistol, grenade, and rifle. He’ll probably be the character that most resembles Solid Snake from Brawl. His Level 1 bar attack is him pushing over a statue onto his opponents. His Level 3 super is turning enveryone into defenseless monsters where he can then beat them up. His recovery move is a zipline.”

Mael Radec

The Killzone franchise was originally conceived on the Ps2 as a Halo killer, and although it hasn’t reached nearly the level of success of Halo, the series has developed a cult following spawning 4 games across the Ps2, Psp, and Ps3; with a 4th major release rumored to be under development at Guerilla for the Ps3, and a Vita version landing sometime in the future.

So who is Colonel Mael Radec? He’s the ruthless, intelligent, and brutal leader of the Helghan forces defending Helghan’s captial city. He’s also Scholar Visari’s personal body guard, and all around the personification of the red eyed fascist undertoned Helghast army. Colonel Mael Radec is a slow moving character who is best used at a range away from other players, where he can use guns to inflict major damage.

Fat Princess

Fat Princess is a downloadable “capture the fat flag” style game where you attempt to steal the other teams princess, while force feeding your princess in order to make it harder for the other team to carry her.

The game spawned a Psp version “Fat Princess Fistful of Cake” The original Fat Princess has been expanded with the ‘Fat Roles” DLC pack, which added 3 new character classes to the fray.

In Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale Fat Princess is a slow moving power house type of character, who calls upon her subjects to hurl fire-balls at enemies on the screen.

PaRappa The Rapper

PaRappa The Rapper is the star of his self titled game. PaRappa The Rapper is generally known as the first modern rhythm game. PaRappa The Rapper has spawned a spiritual successor “UnJammer Lammy” a direct sequel on the Ps2, and a port for the Psp. The series has also been the center of  a large-range merchandising campaign, and a children’s anime television show.

Paul Gale Network reports:

“Parappa seems to have his original voice actor behind him. He yells out some of his popular phrases during battle. He kicks, has a boom box attack, and uses a skateboard as well. His Level 3 super involves him shouting, “I gotta believe” a few times which damages opponents to the point of dying. He also talks while re-spawning.”

Jak and Daxter

Before Naughty Dog developed the award winning Uncharted series, they were hard at work on the Jak and Daxter franchise which has since conception given birth to 6 games across the Ps2, and Psp, along with an HD collection that came out for the Ps3 earlier this year. Jak and Daxter is one of the Ps2′s most iconic franchises earning 7 world records in Guiness World Records 2008 gamers edition.

Jak and Daxter may have been deemed too colorful, or fantastical to appeal to the more gritty HD gaming crowd of today, but those same unique characteristics will make this beloved Playstation duo perfect for the Smash Bros inspired Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Solid Snake

The Metal Gear series has sold over 30 million copies, and is easily Playstations most important 3rd party franchise, with every major installment appearing (usually exclusively) on Playstation consoles.

Why do we know Solid Snake is appearing in Playstation All Stars: Battle Royale? David Hayter’s IMDB page credits him in Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, and recently Eric Ladin (Cole Mcgrath’s inFAMOUS 2 voice actor) tweeted that he, David Hayter, (Solid Snake) and Nolan North (Nathan Drake) are part of the cast of Playstation All Stars Battle Royale.

What’s interesting is that Solid Snake has already starred in Super Smash Bros Brawl, which plays remarkably similar to Playstation All Stars Battle Royale. So we’re left to wonder whether Snake will feature moves similar to his depiction in Smash Bros Brawl, or if SuperBot Entertainment will purposefully avoid similarity to his earlier appearance in Smash Bros in order to differentiate him, and avoid even more comparisons between Playstation All Stars Battle Royale, and Super Smash Bros.

Cole McGrath

Cole McGrath is the super-charged hero of the three inFAMOUS games (counting Festival Of Blood) inFAMOUS has reached critical acclaim, becoming synonymous with the Ps3′s identity, and Playstation in general as Cole was developed into the Playstation Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken.

Cole McGrath’s voice actor Eric Ladin is listed as portraying Cole McGrath on Playstation All Stars Battle Royales IMDB page, additionally Eric Ladin tweeted that he will be voicing Cole, while also outing Snake, and Nathan Drakes voice actors as also contributing their vocal chords to Playstation All Stars Battle Royale.

A focus of the inFAMOUS series is karma, and deciding between good, and bad choices, these decisions affect how the game plays out, and how Cole Mcgrath looks. I expect an ‘Evil Cole’ alternate costume in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, or even an in-game move that changes Cole from ‘evil’ to ‘good’ versions of him, featuring different looks, and moves.

Big Daddy

Bioshocks Big Daddy was confirmed as a playable character at Sony’s 2012 E3 press conference. He’s a hard hitting, and slow character.

Honestly his inclusion frightens me, and opens the flood gates for many other 3rd party characters that really shouldn’t be in Playstation All Stars Battle Royale due to few Playstation ties.

Yes Bioshock released on the Ps3, but it was an Xbox 360/PC exclusive for the first year. At the very least it eventually released with exclusive DLC, but even still Big Daddy is one of the last characters that comes to mind when one thinks of Playstation.

 Heihachi Mishima

Heihachi Mishima is one of the few characters who’s been portrayed in every single Tekken game; and a character some would consider the series overall main villian in the same vein as Shao Kahn, or M. Bison, from Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter respectively. Heichachi Mishima fights using a fictional “hollywood flash” type of Karate that he learned through his father, the visual flair embedded in his fighting style should hopefully help Heihachi from slipping into the “generic karate guy” category many will likely place him.

Tekken has had strong ties with the Playstation brand since the original, with the first 5 Tekken games running, and sold exclusively on the Playstation 1, or 2 after their arcade debuts. It wasn’t until the last main entry in the series (Tekken 6) where Tekken could be enjoyed on the Xbox 360 in addition to the Ps3, and Psp.

Heihachi Mishima is an obvious pick to represent Tekken in Playstation Battle Royale, since he’s a well known original Tekken star, who’s won over the public with a large amount of positive reception. Heihachi Mishima was appropriately revealed as a playable character for Playstation Battle Royale at the video game fighting competition EVO.

 Toro Inoue

In North America, and Europe the question: “who is Playstations mascot?” is a subjective, with the most popular answers being: Sackboy, Ratchet and Clank, Kratos Nathan Drake, or Sweet Tooth, but in Japan things are a little more clear cut, and Toro Inoue, or “the Sony cat” is Playstations official mascot.

So what’s to know about Toro Inoue? He’s a cat who wishes to become human, has appeared in a vast amount of Playstation games in a cameo role. Here’s his official character profile:

According to SuperBot, Toro Inoue looks like a really diverse all-around combatant:

While Inoue may appear as a cute feline, his warrior instinct makes him a deadly foe. Inoue brings a “unique stance-based fighting style” to PlayStation All-Stars. His different sets of attacks allow him to transition from a “close-range fighter in his Justice form, to a ranged specialist in his Torobi form, to an effective wide-area controller in his Oni form.”"

 Predicted Characters:

The characters that follow are most likely who you’re going to see in Playstation’s take on Smash Bros: ‘Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale” I payed attention to a couple different rules Paul Gale originally reported: Game is aiming for 20-ish characters, only one character per franchise. For each character I took into account:

  • How well known the franchise is
  • How original, and/or iconic the character is
  • If the characters franchise will continue into the future
  • Sales, success, and critical reception
  • This list was originally crafted with ONLY first party Playstation characters in mind, and has notable omissions (Crash, Spyro, Cloud) that I’ll be adding in the future when time permits

 Chimeran Hybrid

If you were a launch Ps3 owner, you probably bought Resistance: Fall Of Man. Developed by the same people who brought us Ratchet and Clank the Resistance franchise has had 4 installments across the Ps3, and Psp with a Vita entry on the way. The Resistance universe is very dense, and fans of the series know there’s still a lot of questions that Resistance 3 left open for the series.

As with Killzone, Resistance is defined, and known for its antagonists; the Chimera. Most iconic of which is the Chimeran hybrid you see above. Gameplay wise Resistance is full of varied weapons that SuperBox Entertainment could choose to equip our Chimeran foot soldier with in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale.  The Hybrid has been depicted in several different variations of armor, which will make for some nice distinct alternate costumes.

Ratchet and Clank

When the Ps3 took over the reigns from the Ps2 many of the Ps2′s biggest series didn’t move over to the next generation. So while Sucker Punch moved on from Sly Cooper to develop inFAMOUS, and Naughty Dog left Jak and Daxter for Uncharted, Insomniac kept their Ps2 darling close, and continued developing Ratchet and Clank games while they were working on their new Resistance franchise.

The Ratchet and Clank series has 10 games under it’s belt, having appeared on all of Sony’s consoles post-Ps1. The series hosts a plethora of merchandise including: comic books, action figures, statues, and plushies.

Luckily Ratchet and Clank will be a perfect fit for Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale given their unique style, look and wealth of crazy over the top weapons.

Spyro

Spyro the Dragon was Insomniac games debut title for the original Playstation, and Spyro became an instant Playstation mascot with 3 critically acclaimed adventures selling over 11 million copies combined.

The original 3 Insomniac developed Spyro games were published by Sony Computer Entertainment, and distributed by Universal Pictures who retained the rights to Spyro once Insomniac went independent of Universal Pictures.

Vivendi (the megacorporation that owns Universal Pictures and Blizzard) ending up buying Activision, and merging it with Blizzard to form…Activision Blizzard in 2007, and because of this Spyro’s IP rights sit squarely in Activisions lap, who’s recently made huge profits through its merchandise powered 2011 game ‘Skylanders’ which is already being touted as their “next $1 billion franchise.” and further pushing Spyro into current consumers minds, which should help strengthen Spyro’s cultural penetration in a world where Spyro hasn’t otherwise been on anyones gaming radar for years.

 Crash Bandicoot

Before Naughty Dog developed Uncharted, or Jak and Daxter, they set out to create Playstations mascot (completely unbeknownst to Sony) this mascot ended up being Crash Bandicoot who’s first 3 games sold over 21 million copies, while being critically praised internationally; Playstation had found its mascot.

But unfortunately Naughty Dog was caught up in the exact same distribution deal as Insomniac games (as outlined above) and when Naughty Dog went independent they, and Sony Computer Entertainment (who’d soon after purchase Naughty Dog) lost the Crash Bandicoot IP rights to Universal Pictures.

Cloud Strife

Back when Square (pre-Enix merger) was looking to take their Final Fantasy series to the 5th generation of consoles, they knew the N64, and its limited cartridge capacity couldn’t contain the game they were set on developing (N64 cartridge holds 64mb max, Ps1 uses cd-roms at 750mb max)

So after a fairly long history of Nintendo loyalty (FF1-6) Final Fantasy 7, and every main Final Fantasy after that (until FF13) would live, and breath exclusively on Playstations first two consoles, and Final Fantasy 7 is the highest selling, and probably most beloved Final Fantasy that started it all.

Final Fantasy 7′s immense success has turned the lead protagonist of the game (Cloud Strife) into a video game, and cultural icon, and Cloud has been voted as one of the best, most recognizable video game characters of all time, and an obvious character choice for Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale.

 Wander

Shadow of the Colossus is considered by many to be the greatest game of all time. I don’t have nearly enough space to summarize critics overwhelming love of Shadow of the Colossus, and I figured I might be able to list the awards Shadow of the Colossus has received, but I was wrong. Here’s an entire Ico-Wiki article devoted to the awards Shadow of the Colosus has won. Shadow of the Colossus, and ICO were released in an HD collection in 2011.

Including Wander the protagonist of Shadow of the Colossus is obviously a no-brainer, why wouldn’t Sony take a chance presented to them on a silver platter to advertise that they created one of the most celebrated, and beloved games of all time?

Combat wise we can expect Wander to work very similarly to Link from Smash Brothers, using his sword, and bow/arrow for most attacks. I’m assuming his specials will include summoning either: Argo his horse, a colossi, or possibly the Trico creature from Team ICO’s upcoming “The Last Guardian”

Sir Daniel Fortesque

MediEvil has been heralded as one of Playstations true classics, it has won several awards:

  • Best PlayStation Game – Gaming Expo
  • Best Platinum Seller 1999 – PlayStation Magazine
  • Gold Award – PlayStation Magazine
  • Silver Award – Monthly Games
  • Token Prize – Network Games

The series had a sequel on the Ps1, skipped the Ps2, but luckily the series reminded us of it’s importance with a Psp version .

Sir Daniel Fortesque has a strikingly original look, despite being an armored skeleton, and has wielded several different medieval weapons throughout his games that will surely make him a viable player in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Sackboy

Since before LittleBigPlanet even released in 2009 Sony was confident Sackboy would become one of Playstations central mascots.

It’s hard to argue with that point, as the lovable sack of fluff has had 4 releases across the Ps3, Psp, and PSN, since 2008 with a Playstation Vita version coming 2012, and LittleBigPlanet Karting also coming this year, it seems like LittleBigPlanet is going to be a Playstation staple for years to come.

What can we expect from Sackboy in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale? I’m counting on Sackboy’s infamous slap to make an appearance, along with many of the games power-ups: paintball gun, grappling hook, creatinator, grabinator etc. I’m also expecting a Sackgirl alternate costume. In my own deluded pipe dream, I imagine an alternate costume option, where Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale can read a LittleBigPlanet/2 save data, in order to bring your own Sackboy to the fight, but again while technically possible, it’s closer to a drug fantasy than anything.

Possibilities:

 Lemming

Despite being owned by Sony, Lemmings has the ironic benefit of not actually starting on Playstation consoles. The original lemmings has sold over 15 million copies, and the Lemmings series has been on the: 3DO, Amiga, Amiga CD32, Amstrad CPC, Atari Lynx, Atari ST, CD-i, Commodore 64, DOS, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Gear, JM2E, Macintosh, NES, Sega Master System, Sega Mega Drive, SNES, Windows 3.x, and ZX Spectrum, Psp, Ps3.

Lemmings became a Playstation franchise when Sony purchased Lemmings publisher Psygnosis to head development on the Ps1 where they were renamed Studio Liverpool, and went on to develop the long running Wipeout franchise, along with Formula One.

Lemmings is no doubt one of the most famous, and iconic games series of all time, championed as the mother of the RTS genre by introducing the indirect control concept. Having a Lemming in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale would fit perfectly whether the Lemming is attacking with a pick-axe, or dynamite, gliding with an umbrella, or defending with its construction cap.

Pipo Helmet Ape

Ape Escape is a franchise that absolutely has to be represented in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. There have been 14 Ape Escape games across every single Playstation console, the series has made cameos in 4 other games, spawned 2 different animated shows, and is the 12th best selling video game franchise of all time.

When drawing up lists for characters people would like to see in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale many have pointed to one of Ape Escapes protagonists. I feel this is the wrong approach. The apes in Ape Escape are icons that nearly everyone knows, or at least have seen before, I’m an incredibly knowledgeable gamer, and I didn’t even know the series had protagonists before all of this Playstation Smash Brothers talk started.

So what would the nameless run of the mill hyper intelligent ape representing Ape Escape do in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale? Lots of close combat, as well as wacky pranks, and other monkey business of course.

Gabriel Logan

Back when Golden Eye was all the rage on the N64, Sony knew they needed something to compete. So they hired developer Eidetic who would later be acquired, and renamed “Sony Bend” in order to develop their own spy series.

Syphon Filters shallow competitive origins hasn’t stopped it from becoming one of the longest running Playstation franchises, There’s 6 Syphon Filter games spread out across the Ps1, Ps2, and Psp with a Ps3 game rumored. Unlike most other multiple game franchises (especially those with portable entries) Sony Bend has developed every single Syphon Filter game to date. *Side note: They also developed the excellent Resistance Retribution, and Uncharted Golden Abyss for the Playstation Vita.

Gabe Logan would fit well in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, as SuperBox could combine his stealth, combat techniques, and gadgets to create a very rounded combatant similar to Snake in Smash Bros Brawl.

Additional Characters/Franchises that missed the cut:

Jack McReady and  Scarlett Blake

Dead Nation is quite possibly Playstation Networks finest game. Developed by Housemarque (Super Stardust HD, Outland) Dead Nation has a higher budget then I’ve ever seen for a download only title, I remember waiting over a year from when it was first announced, which is very rare for a PSN title.

And when Dead nation released late last year it delivered a dark game where you played as zombie apocalypse survivor Jack McReady, or Scarlett Blake (both if  co-op)

Why should these characters star in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale? Aside from the whole “best game on Playstation Network” thing, the characters are very unique in appearance, and they have a range of creative weapons that could be used in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and Dead Nations ending left the franchise open for a sequel. Additionally Dead Nation has been downloaded nearly 4 million times, making it likely the most played Playstation Network exclusive. Plus if Fat Princess can get her fat downloadable ass in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, then I figure Dead Nation can shoe horn its way in.

But-what about the  “no dual representation per franchise” concept? The idea here is that since they were both equal stars in Dead Nation with the exact same abilities, that will be reflected in the game (Fox, Falco from Super Smash Bros) so they can either both have their own icons on the character screen or possibly a red Dead Nation skull, and upon clicking it, you get to choose between the two, or you can make Scarlett function as an alternate costume for Jack.

As far as differences go I’d keep it simple: different voice work/reskinned character models obviously. Then I’d give them both a “Rush” attack like they have in Dead Nation, however Jack’s “Rush” will have a black/blue wind trail to it, whereas Scarlett’s will be black/red. Only weapon/move difference will be the Shocker weapon for Jack, and Flame Thrower for Scarlett, both functioning very similar. Two characters for the development time of 1.3!

Mannequin Figure

Echochrome’s appearance on this list may surprise many of you, after all Echochrome is just a intelligent yet bland downloadable puzzler that caught some attention years ago right?

Well yes, and no. Echochrome released in 2008 on the Ps3, and Psp as a downloadable title (the Psp version got a UMD release in Europe, and Japan) Since then 2011 is the first year a new Echochrome game hasn’t released (Echoshift 2009, Echochrome II 2010) additionally a Echochrome themed game is available to play for free within the Bowling Alley in Playstation Home, where you can unlock pieces of a fairly disturbing mannequin costume.

What ties all of these games together? The nameless mannequin figure; every Echochrome plays differently from the next, yet they all share the same blank yet seemingly deeply contemplating figure. What this means is Echochrome has become Playstations go to character for puzzles similar to how Wario is an excuse for Nintendo to put out mini-game collections. I imagine the mannequin figure will be with Playstation for a long time to come, often pioneering new control methods, or showcasing a consoles features in a different innovative way.

As for how he’ll fit into ‘Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale’? I’m guessing a lot of physical combat, possibly also using a flash light in a quirky physics based way (shine it, shadows become solid objects?) as for recovery move, I’m guessing a jump pad will appear below him, to propel him upward.

Tag

In Modnation you can create nearly any kind of character or kart you can imagine, Modnation is easy to pick up, yet offers plenty of room for you to grow and expand your racing ability.

Modnation has released on the Ps3, Psp, and Playstation Vita With its casual yet deep racing, humorous full story mode, and endless customizability Modnation is a franchise Sony’s looking to take with them as their answer to Mario Kart, just as LittleBigPlanet is their platformer in the vein of  Mario, and Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale is going to be Playstations version of Smash Brothers. [Note: The announcement of LittleBigPlanet Karting developed by United Front Games (same guys who made Modnation) combined with Modnations lackluster sales throws the future of Modnation right up in the air, there is hope though as Modnation Road Trip (Vita) most likely went into development sometime after (though around the same time) as LittleBigPlanet Karting, posing the question; why was Modnation Vita developed if Sony's hoping to end the franchise? Modnation Vita could of course just been there to help launch the Vita since Ps3-Vita porting is said to be remarkably simple, and quick.]

Fortunately if you’re an uncreative drone you don’t need to customize a character, or even touch the creation aspects of Modnation, since you’re able to play as the strong, silent Modnation protagonist Tag, while unlocking your rivals in story mode.

Rudy Roughknight

If Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale wants to fairly represent Playstations history, and demographic; it has to include a classic first party Playstation RPG character. And after frustrating amounts of research, I deemed Rudy Roughknight from Wild Arms as the best pick.

There have been 7 Wild Arms games across the Ps1, Ps2, Psp, and a Ps3 Wild Arms is rumored. In other media there’s a Wild Arms: manga, and anime series. The Wild Arms series is unique for it’s pseudo-wild west/sci-fi hybrid  setting rather than following other popular RPG cliches.

Rudy Roughknight is the star of the first Wild Arms, as well as the Ps2 remake Wild Arms: Alter Code F. Though each Wild Arms has a stand alone story, he’s been referenced in a couple of the other Ps2 Wild Arms.

  • Motorstorm seems to be a series Sony’s taking with them, especially after Motorstorm RC being announced despite the disappointing sales of the previous two Motorstorms. Motorstorm does have interesting characters that could work in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, but unfortunately they were only in Motorstorm Apocalypse, which as I already implied was a sales flop.
  • When I said I had to choose a exclusive RPG, there were other contenders that could of taken Rudy RoughKnights place. Most notably Dart Feld from Legend Of Dragoon, or Arc The Lad. Legend of Dragoon sold well, but unfortunately it originally debuted on the Ps1,and never had a sequel, Arc The Lad had several sequels (and only 2 main characters) but never became as big as Wild Arms. In a way this is a toss up that I’m not very sure about. Please leave a comment telling me which game you think is more popular/relevant, and I’ll update the classic RPG rep based on feedback.
  • Emmett Graves is the protagonist of Starhawk, the spiritual successor to Warhawk launching 2012. I get the feeling Emmett could easily work his way into Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale,  as the representation of the whole Warhawk series (Warhawk(Ps1), Warhawk(Ps3), Starhawk(Ps3)) He didn’t make the cut due to the size limit of the list (20ish, we sprung for 21 if you count Jack/Scarlett as only one character) along with the fact that his first game is releasing next year.
  • Norman Jayden is one of the main protagonists of Heavy Rain. Heavy Rain is touted as one of the most important games of this generation. Norman Jayden could use his gun of course, along with physical combat, and he could possibly use real augmented reality via his glasses/glove. This type of sci-fi witch craft wouldn’t stand in Heavy Rain, but would fit well in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, while paying homage to what Norman Jayden was best known for. Ultimately Jayden didn’t make the cut due to both not looking iconic/unique, and because David Cage has publicly said Quantic Dream isn’t going to do a sequel to Heavy Rain, which means unless you’re replaying Heavy Rain (which David Cage advises against) then you’re not going to see Jayden again.
  • Ico is a very important game to the Ps2, and the main character looks very unique. However Ico’s spiritual successor is Shadow of The Colossus, and Wander is on the list partially for both Ico, and Shadow of The Colossus. Ico additionally had poor sales in North America.
  • Jeanne d’Arc is the star of her self titled game. It released on the Psp to very high critical success. The character is unique, and Jeanne would be perfect in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale. However Jeanne d’Arc never received a sequel, and didn’t sell too well.
  • Patapon is a series that could easily make its way into Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, spawning 3 sequels the only thing holding the game back is the lack of a  distinct figurehead. Patapon is defined by a swarm of Patapons, and a single Patapon representing them would lose some meaning. I fully expect Patapon to be in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale in one way or another, Loco Roco is in the exact same predicament.
  • Buzz is one of Playstations most well known franchises, however he’s being represented in the LittleBigPlanet stage where he actually comes out, and gives you trivia. I think it’s best to keep him in this innovative role.
  • Hot Shots Golf is a huge Playstation franchise that lacks a central character. The series is going to be in a stage however.
  • Gran Turismo is the worlds biggest driving simulator. The games are defined by cars, and not characters though, so I expect a Gran Turismo  stage.

To recap, the characters pictured above are who you’ll most likely see in Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale (unless the game is tainted with several third party characters, than the skies the limit, and you can’t really predict too many of the characters)

Make sure to bookmark, and share this article, it’ll be continually updated, and it shows very clearly that Playstation has a huge host of iconic characters to choose from, that easily rivals Nintendos Smash Brothers.

  • Dick Human

Great list but you should have also added Dart Feld,  Im pretty sure a lot of people would like him in the game

  • KRay

    Abe…

  • Bran

If Tag and Sackboy are in it, I’ll consider

    • Exovedate

I can ALMOST guarantee sackboy will be in it. Putting aside everything I said above, if you look at the “Dreamscape” level in PASBR you’ll notice there’s a popit, WITHOUT a sackboy controlling it. By contrast buzz shows up in the same level, and due to that I’m very certain buzz won’t be in PASBR as a playable character.

Tag is much more uncertain. I wrote this list last year before Littlebigplanet Karting was announced, so the future of Modnation is very up in the air, with the only point for Modnations possible continuation being the launch release of Modnation for the PSV

  • Gekkokamen

Nariko from Heavenly Sword. And don’t forget third-party characters that are PlayStation Legends : Crash Bandicoot MUST be in, and it’ll be a great plus to have Lara Croft and Cloud Strife.

    • http://fuckedupgames.org Exovedate

Crash Bandicoots been added to the list. Lara Croft is iffy because Nathan Drake largely fills that area of Playstation now a days; she is a possibility though. Cloud is the next character I’m gonna work into the list when I get the time.

  • Hopin

Oh man I really want to see just one valkyria chronicles character to show up in this game. Preferably, Selvaria Bles.

  • Brandon Dean

    What about Crash Bandicoot!?

    • http://fuckedupgames.org Exovedate

Crash Bandicoots been added. The list was originally written and composed exclusively of first-party characters, I’m working to revamp the predicted list. Added Spyro, and Crash; next up is Cloud when I get the chance.

    • Exovedate

Crash has been added. :-) Original list only included first party characters.

  • Tony

No Alucard from SOTN? No Andy from Heart of Darkness? Lame!
