Vietnam – Online after 10pm Banned

Apparently the Vietnamese government thought parents weren’t regulating their kids gaming time well enough, so they stepped in.

wow... just wow

In Vietnam, online gaming after 10:00 pm is now illegal. That means little nerds will actually have to SLEEP now, instead of game all night and become useless to society.

Oooohoho, but the government didn’t stop with regulating children’s online gaming internet use, EVERYONE is regulated. All ISPs in the country have been contacted by the Ministry of Information and Communication telling them to switch off access to online games between the hours of 10pm and 8am every day. Such limits have to be in place by March 3.

Any ISP deciding to disregard the request will have their service terminated, so it’s a mandatory rule everyone will have to follow. Deputy Minister Le Nam Thang made this clear:

Provincial departments of information and communication will inspect on-line games activities nationwide and deal with organizations that violate regulations by canceling their services.

China also implemented new measures to limit online gaming earlier this month, but not on such drastic a scale. While it seems no one can play games during a set period of time in Vietnam, China instead introduced the ability for parents to control their children’s access to such games.

God I love the US/Canada… Sure they watch what we do online, but they (usually) don’t tell us what we can/can’t do online… aside from the law of course.

Exovedate: Man I hate internet regulation. I think the only regulation/big brother bull shit that should ever go down is cops being able to contact an isp (with a warrant) to access information about a specific client. For example if a criminal is being charged as a terrorist, and the Government wants to ask a isp to provide info on the customer in order to find mutual (suspected terrorist) clients. Or another example would be someone being tried for child rape or some other form of sexual deviancy without mutual consent where the cops need more evidence to make a conviction.

Up here the CRTC wanted to make it so that all ISP’s in the country had to cap internet usage, and pay per use (the more you use, the more you pay) luckily the federal Government said “No fucking way” (give or take a swear word or two) but it’s still kinda scary the way internet regulation is going in some places. That’s why I’m a huge supporter of net neutrality. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_neutrality
